Welcome to Canada!
Dear reader, it's been a while since I last posted about my trip to Canada. But just that you know - I'm here! The following pictures and paragraphs describe my journey from Toronto to North Bay.
Toronto
This was my first immigration check-in ever and it went quite well. I didn't even have to show any of those documents that I had prepared and copied in advance.
Unfortunately, it was raining when we got to Toronto. I was sleep deprived and couldn't keep up with my friend while we were walking towards the hotel.
I must admit that due to my exhaustion ordering from Subway was quite a challenge. The menu was totally different compered to the Finnish one and I couldn't hear the person behind the counter. I might've blurted out some non-beauty words in Finnish.
In my opinion, Toronto is quite beautiful with its' raw metropoly aesthetics. Whatever I was expecting from it, it wasn't this. I had the chance to see a little piece of the heart of Toronto. I had only seen the silhouette of Toronto in Love It or List It. Nice for a change to see the actual street view.
Although we would've loved to stay in Toronto, we indeed had to continue our journey. After 9 hours of sleep and hearty hotel breakfast we were ready to head towards North Bay.
It took us five hours to reach North Bay. The best part of the bus trip was meeting a Polish man in Bracebridge. He works as a cashier in the hotel where the bus stops for a 15 minute break. He had a chance to flabbergast me with his European senses. Right after I entered the shop, he asked me:
"Are you a European by any chance?"
"HOW DID YOU KNOW? Before I even said anything you just knew I was European?"
"I'm from Poland - I know."
"Fair enough." 😂
North Bay is a little different compared to Toronto. And by a little I mean a lot! For a Finnish person, North Bay is an average sized little city, and it feels cozy. But it feels much bigger due to the broad exhibit.
You have to use a car to get anywhere. Roads are wide, big, and there are several lanes for every street. The status of pedestrians isn't the best either. In some places there's only a small strip to use for walking. And honestly, walking on that next to a busy street can be horrifying.
Though, I am thankful for the school for offering us a student card that can include a bus pass. Only by showing your student card, you can travel by bus all around North Bay as much as you want.
So far, North Bay has been pretty good place to live in. In my next blog I am going to talk a little bit more about my studies here at Nipissing University.
Thank you for coming along for the ride!
